It looked as if the sky was pierced,
had been punctured so that we
might catch a glimpse of heaven through
the rubbery blackness.

I promise you I could love
and loved you
and wanted to stay young forever
looking dreamily up at the sky

But someone told me there is no heaven
no true anything
just layers upon layers of meaning
that would never come close to reality

And I left
because I'm Faust
and you stand in the way of my rationality
and there's no such thing

as broken sky.

I feel so happy
when the sun comes out.
Everything is okay.
I have a job. I have a life. I'm happy.
Until you tell me
I can't know
can't understand
because I don't suffer
and I swear and scream and spit
in your face to make you understand
that I've seen how twisted, how ugly...
and I'm just trying to be...
in spite of everything,
you wouldn't know
that I'm anything other
than a stupid girl smiling at
whatever the sunlight touches.
