It appears that student information can be available online for anyone to see. In searching for a course's web page, I recently came across the professor's parent directory and had access not only to exams and assignments, but to student grades from the previous two semesters. I was able to open a spreadsheet that told me each student's full name, assignment and exam grades, and cumulative course grades. Although it is likely that the extent of the availablity of this information is accidental, this a clear breach of the university's confidentiality policy. By no means should one be able to accidentally stumble upon the personal information that I have now become aware of. In promising students confidentiality, professors have agreed to do all that is within their power to prevent the disclosure of grades, etc. I am now concerned that this may be a problem throughout the university and in other academic institutions. The issue has been brought to the attention of the professor in question.
